Today's modern networks store and carry highly-sensitive and classified data. To
prevent unauthorized access and external infiltration through a network, many of
these networks are upgrading to a unidirectional format, whereby information
travels in one direction across a path, connecting a low security to a high
secuirty network. This method of data transport ensures that specific
information in a network is only accessible by authorized users.
The unidirectional media converters are modified to work in pairs, where one of
the unit's transmit fiber
is disabled and the other's receive fiber
is disabled. The installation requires specific equipment, such as a Data Diode,
somewhere in the fiber connection, to support one way flow of information. The
unidirectional media converters are available in a compact form factor, modular,
or available for instation in an open PCI slot of a PC.
